Securities and Derivatives Network (SDNet)

SDNet

SDNet is an IP-enabled securities and derivatives markets network, which provides a powerful foundation for the long-term growth and success of the HKSAR financial community. It is an integrated Optical Ethernet network infrastructure for the systems used for trading, clearing and settlement, and market data dissemination in its securities and derivatives market.

SDNet has replaced the previous separate telecommunication networks for HKEx's four major operating systems, AMS/3 (securities trading), HKATS/DCASS (derivatives trading, clearing and settlement), CCASS/3 (securities clearing and settlement) and MDS and PRS (securities and derivatives market data services for information vendors). All four market systems have now been integrated into the new network, and are given their own transmission channels and dedicated bandwidth allocation to ensure smooth handling of transactions.

Implementation of SDNet was kicked off in January 2005 and the project was successfully completed in July 2007.

SDNet provides flexible and higher bandwidth than the multiple networks it replaced, and it is more reliable and efficient. In addition, the migration of circuits to SDNet has resulted in significant network cost savings for Exchange Participants, Clearing Participants, information vendors and HKEx.

SDNet has paved the way for further capacity upgrades of HKEx's trading, clearing and settlement, and market data dissemination systems to smoothly handle the rapid growth of trading and other activities in its securities and derivatives markets.
